Design for the Scan, Not Just the Brand

Branding and readability are not enemies, but when they conflict, readability has to win. Here is how to keep both.

Contrast and color

Scanners read the difference between dark modules and a light background. Keep a dark foreground on a light background — never invert it — and avoid pairing two close hues. Brand colors are fine as long as the contrast stays high; check any color pair before committing to it. Choose the Right Redirect Mode

  • Scan it on more than one phone — ideally a recent iPhone, a recent Android device, and one older model.
  • Scan from the real distance, and again from twice that distance.
